Pre Christmas Commissions

Pre Christmas commissions have kept me busy. These commissions have sprung from people attending my exhibitions. I enjoyed the process of working with clients and designing pieces that suit their needs. It seems that my pen drawings with a visual twist are still popular with people and is something that perhaps I need to continue with and develop further in the new year. A new development with these commissioned pieces is the introduction of the use of brush and ink techniques overlaid with my usual fine line detail with pen. I think that with the use of background brush washes, comes an additional depth and expressiveness to my compositions.

See the Commissions page for recent commissions completed.

Successful Opening

The ‘Opening’ at the Rawnsley Park Woolshed Restaurant-Gallery for the ‘Brush with Art’ festival in the Flinders Ranges was very successful. Sharon Brett and I were the exhibiting artists. Sally and Jon Dean, as usual, went to great lengths to provide a venue full of character and wine and nibbles to stimulate the taste buds….and  a fun time for all. The big bonus was eight(8) sales for me (from 21 pieces).  The main buyers were tourists from the caravan park, with my art now to be couriered to Western Australia, Victoria, NSW and Queensland and one to England!!!!!

JIm and Shaz Green were on a high and since the opening  three more have sold ( so far??)

Look at the ‘Opening of Dimensions of Wilpena Pound’ page for photos and information.

The ‘Gallery – Dimensions of Wilpena Pound’ page  is now also up for your perusal.

Exhibition opening

With three weeks to go I am almost ready! I have one painting to go which is titled  “protective paws”. I will have 20 pieces of varying size and mediums, but all very affordable for tourists.

The opening is at the Woolshed Gallery, Rawnsley Park Station  on Wipena Road  via Hawker, Saturday 8th September 2012, at 3.30pm

You are invited!. A glass of champagne on entry to the opening and some Woolshed Reataurant special nibbles will be provided.

Make a holiday of it and come and see “Dimensions of Wilpena Pound” which is my theme for the exhibition. Other destinations in the Flinders Ranges also have exhibitions which are also part of ‘ Brush with Art ‘ from September 8 to October 8 2012.

Go to www.abrushwithart.com.au for more details.

Please reply below if you are coming.

Flinders Rangers ‘a brush with art’ 8th September to 8th October

‘A brush with art’  is an art trail from Gladstone and Jamestown through the Southern Flinders Ranges, up as far as Parachilna and down through Port Augusta and Port Pirie. A wonderful trip to do over a few days during our usually delightful spring weather (and when the wild flowers are fully flowering!). Go to abrushwithart.com.au for details.

I have participated in this wonderful festival of art for the last two years by exhibiting at the Woolshed Restaurant Gallery, Rawnsley Park and am presently preparing for my third. This year I am co-exhibiting with collage artist Sharon Brett. Gallery owners Sally and John Dean have always found me a talented young artist to exhibit with, someone who works in a different way to me to provide a nice contrast of styles for the viewer.

This year my theme is ‘Dimensions of Wilpena Pound’.  Rawnsley Park station is a working sheep station situated just outside the southern tip of the pound. My interpretations of the pound will be shown in both the macro and  micro view, from above, inside, outside and from within the very fabric of the environmental and historical aspects of such a fascinating geological feature. As usual I will provide some optical twists for the viewer to discover.

More information to come as I need to get back to the paintings, pastels and pen and brush drawings I have in progress. Below is a sneak preview!!!!!

Hills Homestead Homecoming, pastel, 400x 500 framed

The Westward Ho Golf Club Members Exhibition

A successful showing of art from 8 artists. The opening night was sensational with around 120 people in attendance. By the end of the week we sold 20%. Some talk of another similar event next year …..but we shall see.

Below are some of the golf club images I contributed to the exhibition. Other contributions are paintings of our travels which are shown in the acrylic and watercolour pages of this web site.

Long Putt on the Sixth Green

The Bridge to Morning Relief

and the pastel below which has a particular story associated with a certain member of the club who I play golf with on Thursdays.!!!!!!. If you want to know the story……contact me.

Vixon’s Vault

next exhibition

It has now been confirmed that an exhibition of member’s artwork from the Westward Ho Golf Club, West Beach will open on Friday June 8th and run for a week until June 14th at the golf club.

I am organising and running the exhibition with the help of the golf club’s social committee.  Seven club members with varied expereince will be combining their efforts to make an interesting display …..and there promises to be a fair variety of media and styles ….and we are sure that some images will use golf as a theme and others will be subjects of the artist’s preference.

We are all working hard to produce the work in time. My contribution is fairly extensive as one of the featuring artists. Some insight into my preparations for this exhibition will follow. ………..look at the painting which features in the commissions page!!! This will be in the exhibition to advertise the  commission concept to members.

Welcome to Jim’s first website/blog

It has been a long and challenging learning experience, but finally I have something up and running. Learning to create a web-site/blog on line has at times been frustrating, but I have finally started to understand what I am doing.

You will be able to access information about me, my activities and thoughts as an artist, but more importantly, view an ever increasing collection of my art.

Some of the art displayed has already been sold. Other pieces are not for sale (NFS) as they hold special significance for me. Others are fairly recent pieces that are for sale.

Please make comments or requests in the reply box . What do you think? What information can you add? What do you like about my art?  What do you think I could do to improve it???(  I am always looking for constructive feedback). If you want to discuss the purchase of any piece on display, or wish to talk about a commission, indicate your interest and contact details .

You will find reply boxes on every page of this site.

I hope that you enjoy looking.
